As part of our ongoing commitment to give opportunity, knowledge and education to our community we are pleased to announce the launch of a new initiative – The Hollywood SceneWorks Clinic & Competition.
The SceneWorks Clinic and Competition has assembled an esteemed judges panel which includes: Moderator New York Times Bestselling Author Dr. LaJoyce; Tony Award Winning Actress Tonya Pinkins; Emmy Award Winning Producer Crystal Whaley; Emmy Award Nominated Director & Line Producer for a Academy Award Nominated Documentary Daphne McWilliams; Executive Producer Carol Ann Shine; Producer/ Director/ Acting Coach Tracey Moore; Talent Manager Lorna Rainey; and Casting Director Mellicent Dyane. The event MC will be comedienne Mugga.

The Clinic portion will be a Q & A session with the Judges Panel that will be guided by the moderators that will give the actors, filmmaker and audience a up close look into the audition process, how industry executives select talent for projects and what actors/talent can do to improve their overall performance, land more bookings and get your film completed!  The audience will also have an opportunity to ask questions to the Judges Panel.
The Special Performances portion is a vignette inspired by the Best Selling Memoir Published by Simon & Schuster, “Faith Under Fire” centers around a vibrant, successful music industry executive who meets and falls in love with a handsome man who uses charm, romance, and a non-disclosed HIV status in a twisted, deadly plot to not die alone.  The harrowing memoir was adapted into a sold-out theatrical production at the National Black Theater in New York City in 2016.  Written and directed by Dr. LaJoyce and Blake Roberts, produced byBrookshire Lafayette and co-produced by Michelle Joyce for @TheDigitalChick.
The Competition portion will showcase actors who will perform live for jury of leading film executives, producers, talent agents, casting directors and other industry professionals at the 19th Annual African American Women in Cinema Film Festival.
The cost to register and submit your online audition video in order to compete in the competition portion is $40 and you must Register and upload your Youtube recorded audition video by March 20, 2017 8:59 pm PST, 11:59 pm EST.  Out of all the contestants that submit online videos we will select the top 10 or more video contestants to come and compete LIVE at the event Infront of the Judges Panel in New York City.   Even if you don’t compete, you still want to be at this event!  The Audience will get questions answered, be fully entertained by all of the live performances and gain knowledge that will help you in your personal life, entertainment careers and relationships.   Those Competing in the TWO ROUND process, will showcase both on your video submissions and live if picked a (2minutes or less) Monologue or (3minutes or less) Partner Scene with 1 other person.
One Winner will receive a Mentoring Session from Tracy Moore legendary acting coach.

Submission requirements:
Two Round Competition process- (Round 1) video Submission only picking top 10 to 15 contestants Videos, (Round 2) Top Selected Contestants from Video Submissions Will Compete Live at Event March 24, 2017 at 12:30pm. Must be 18 and over Must submit Headshot and Resume with registration. Must be able to be present and confirmed to be in New York City on the day of the scheduled event if selected. Submission fee - $40 each contestant Each contestant can pick either: If you would like to Submit a Partner Scene and then a Separate Monologue you can however, that will be a new submission. (Please note on your registration that you have recently submitted) Up to 2 min monologue Single Person Up to 3 min Partner Scene (2 person max) No Costumes No Props

Contestant can Do the following types of Video Submissions:
Drama or Comedy piece It can be an Original, Well Known or Scripted Piece From either a Movie, TV show, Web series or Stage Play Actors please make sure to display a piece that will showcase your full talent. On each Contestant Video, you must state your name(s), where you are from (city and State), and the title of the piece you are presenting. Please be loud, clear and make sure you have a good quality of video camera with good lighting and sound so we can see you at your best. Remember you only get one video to submit so make it your best! All video submissions should be in color only and In English only no subtitles.

Upload Video to YouTube with Title: Scene Work Competition AAWIC (Including your name etc.) Then Send the Video YouTube Link to the Email Address and or website provide for Submission.

March 20 Round One - ALL Contestants Video and Registration due – Registration fee to Compete $40 March 22 Round One - Top 15 to 20 will be confirmed and listed on the website and or by email or phone call with Details on Competing LIVE March 24 at 7pm March 24 Round Two - Top Contestants picked will perform LIVE at the event in front of the Judges Panel and a Live studio audience. Please Note: The Submission fee will also cover entrance to event even if you are not selected in Round One to compete LIVE on March 24, 2017, however you MUST RSVP immediately and it will be on a first come first Serve basis. Each person not competing that submitted to compete must receive a confirmation email that you have a seat and you must be early to ensure you get a seat. Space is limited!

The Judges on the Panel Will Judge each contestant on the following:
Stage presence Overall performance Vocal Quality Physical Characterization Believability Build up and Impact of Piece Level of difficulty of piece

There will be 5 to 6 Judges - The Judges are well-known Industry Executives, Talent Managers, Agents, Directors, Producers, Writers, and Casting Director etc. After each performance, each Judge will give detailed opinions and feedback to all of the Contestants on each performance and score the performance according to the list given to each Judge at the start of the show.

At the End the Judges Will Select the Top 5 best Performers or Performances and then pick only 1 act with the most Points as the winner and if there is a Tie the Audience will Pick the winner.
